Instructions to prepare for your procedure and care for yourself afterward. Follow these carefully to minimize discomfort and reduce the risk of complications.

Before Your Sedation Appointment

Please follow these instructions carefully to prepare for oral surgery with IV sedation. Failure to follow them may result in rescheduling your appointment.
Do not eat or drink anything, including water, for 8 hours before the appointment.
No smoking for at least 12 hours prior to surgery.
Do not wear tight clothing on the day of your appointment.
Do not ignore a head or chest cold, call immediately if symptoms develop.
Give 24-hour notice if you cannot keep your appointment.

Implant Surgery Aftercare Instructions

Some bleeding, swelling, and discomfort after implant surgery is normal. Follow these instructions carefully to protect the surgical site and support healing.
Some bleeding in the saliva is normal for 24 hours. Bite on a gauze pad for 30 minutes to control excessive bleeding. Call our office if bleeding continues.
Apply ice continuously to the cheek in the area of surgery for the first 36 hours to minimize swelling.
Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid hot liquids or food on the day of surgery. Return to a normal diet as soon as possible unless directed otherwise.
Begin pain medication as the local anesthetic wears off, following the instructions provided by our team. If advised to alternate ibuprofen and Tylenol, follow the recommended timing and do not exceed the daily limits for either medication. Do not drink alcohol or drive while taking prescription pain medication.
If antibiotics were prescribed, take as directed until the course is complete.

After Wisdom Teeth Removal

Post-operative care after wisdom teeth removal is important. Following these instructions from the start can help reduce the risk of complications, including dry socket and infection.
Keep gauze over the surgical site for 30 minutes. Do not rinse, spit, or use a straw for the first 24 hours, this protects the blood clot.
Swelling peaks around day 2 to 3. Apply ice packs to the jaw, 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off, for the first 24 hours. After 36 hours, moist heat helps reduce remaining swelling.
Take pain medication as directed by our team. If you are advised to take ibuprofen with Tylenol, follow the recommended dose and timing exactly. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose for either medication.
Eat soft foods only: yogurt, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, soup, smoothies without a straw. Avoid crunchy, spicy, or chewy foods until the sites have healed
Begin gentle salt water rinses the day after surgery, 5 to 6 times daily especially after eating. If given a syringe, begin using it on day 3 to irrigate the sockets
